Aerojet put rocket fuel in our drinking
water. We demand that Aerojet, the polluter, pay NOW for
building a Regional Treatment plant for all water providers,
giving established residents replacement water "at
no cost". (Aerojet promised us this water in a full
page Bee ad on Nov 1, 2001 -where is it?)
We demand that the polluter pay for bottled
water "at no cost" to residents until this plant
is completed and running. If Aerojet can provide a Rancho
Cordova business in March 1999 (well #9), and the town
of Glen Avon since the 1980's with bottled water-they
can provide our neighborhoods with bottled water too!
The "Sunridge/Sunrise-Douglas"
development is being planned in a location that lies directly
in the path of Aerojet's spreading plume of contamination.
We oppose the approval of this plan until the "Zone
40" water we are counting on includes figures for
what will be taken out for groundwater remediation.
We want safeguards for the water needs
of existing neighborhoods. Replacement water cannot be
provided by Aerojet "within 24 hours", as no
requisite infrastructure currently exists. The $75 million
that Aerojet is required to put up is not earmarked for
replacement water.
We want the extent of groundwater
contamination and the potential for overdraft in south
Sacramento County to be analyzed by a comprehensive groundwater
model that addresses both contamination and overdraft.
Projects cannot be considered on a piecemeal basis; the
cumulative impact of groundwater allocations and surface
supplies must be calculated before development is approved.
We request that the County develop a more comprehensive
model because the current EIR for Sunrise-Douglas did
not analyze contamination aspects, only overdraft.
In order to avoid unnecessary
and costly litigation, we request that the Regional Water
Quality Control Board file the actual papers showing our
community why they believe they are exempt under CEQA
law 15062.
